![]() No Founders Day Celebrations for 2008
It is very sad to say that we will not have a Founder's Day celebration
this year. After so many years of service, Suzy Shaub and Nita Grover
announced that they could no longer manage the celebration's organization.
They asked for someone else to take over.
Unfortunately, nobody volunteered. Nobody!!! People in Union seem to expect only a handful of people to do everything on the Town, so they can sit back and complain about things that went wrong. Neither Suzy nor Nita ever received a thank you note from anyone. I know that a few organizations are going to offer a limited amount of entertainment. We will have the Come Spring Bus tour, the silent movie, a book sale, the canoe trips and maybe some more. I hope the Masons and the Thompson Center can provide us with something to eat. If not, better luck next year. The
Union Church of the Nazarene came out of prayer meetings which were
held in the homes of the people from Union. Mrs. Emily Bacon, affectionately
known as "Gram Bacon", had moved to North Waldoboro from Masschusetts.
Having been a member of a Nazarene church, she attended the prayer meeting
groups and was most helpful in getting Christian leaders to come to
the Town Hall in Union to conduct services and evangelistic meetings.
The Ware sisters - Eva and Mary - opened their home for many meetings
and later on "Aunt Mary" willed her home for the first Nazarene parsonage.
For a brief history of the church click on the thumbnail. Worship service
is held every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
at 85 Townhouse Road. Sunday School for all ages is at 10:30a.m.
We
are already receiving responses to Phil Groce's article. We will collect
all that material in a separate page so people can access it at will.
Phil sent us a story he wrote for the Bangor Daily News a week or two ago. We'd appreciate your comments. You can send us an email to nsantori@midcoast.com or make your comments in the Forum. Click on the thumbnail to read the story and comments from other readers. ![]() Elections In
less than a month, we are going to vote for two selectmen. Since Buddy
Savage is running uncontested, our attention is focused on Greg Groton,
Patrick Cosgrove, and Kay Santorineos. We encourage all of them to send
us their position papers, and let the Union people know what they stand
for. Please send your feedback to nsantori@midcoast.com
or make them in the Forum.

![]() What do we need in Union? by Nick Santorineos Next month we are
going to vote for a new select person. It is no secret that my wife
is one of the candidates, but my thoughts apply to all. We are experiencing hard times. Gas prices are up,
flooding threatens homes & businesses, taxes are up, medications cost an arm and a leg. Most of these things
are beyond our control, but there are a lot of things we can do for Union. We need better maintained roads. We
need to attract businesses to our town which needs more income. We need to maintain our legacy, the Union
Common.
I invite our neighbors to tells us their ideas and what they would like to see done by the new Board of Selectmen. You can e-mail your thoughts to nsantori@midcoast.com or make them in the Forum
