Libraries

In times like these, we feel proud to be Mainers, and in particular Unionites!  The Vose Library's Art Tour & Wine Tasting event was a tremendous success, and left everybody thirsting for more!  There was nothing that could have used improvement.  Exhibitors and visitors alike were thrilled.

Those of you who didn't make it, you missed something really special.  Our heart-felt thanks to the library organizers, to the exhibitors, and to the wine producers.  CONGRATULATIONS!! Here are some photos.

Vose Library to Host Union Art Tour, Wine Tasting, and Silent Auction

The First Annual Union Art Tour, Wine Tasting, and Silent Art Auction will take place Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Union. The tour is timed to coincide with the fall leaf season during which the hills and lakes of Union are looking their colorful best. Featured on the self-guided tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be Union area artists’ studios, and local, private and commercial vineyards. A silent art auction with live music and wine tasting, featuring wines from three Maine wineries, will highlight the day’s events from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Town House in Union. The wine tasting will include wines from Savage Oakes Winery of Union, Cellar Door Winery of Lincolnville, Winterport Winery, and cheese from Appleton Creamery. A light soup lunch will be available at Vose library, on Union Common, from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Vose Library Building Fund.

The Vose Library is presently housed in the Robbins House on Union Common, where it rents space from the Union Historical Society. The library is working to build a home of its own on property purchased during the first phase of its Capital Campaign. The Art Tour, Wine Tasting, and Silent Auction will be the kick-off event of the next phase of the Capital Campaign.

Cost for the tour is $20 in advance and $22 the day of the event. Tickets for Union residents are $15. Included in the ticket price is a map describing the artists and vineyards, entry to those venues, and participation in the wine tasting and silent art auction. The soup lunch at the library is available to participants for an extra charge. Tickets are available at Harbor Audio Video and Lily, Lupine, and Fern in Camden; The Reading Corner in Rockland; Waltz Pharmacy and McKean and Charles Wine Merchants in Waldoboro; and The Cricket and Vose Library in Union. For more information about the tour and to purchase tickets by phone call Vose Library at 785-4733.
